#ESPSpread - Who Will We See at BlizzCon

Nearing the midway point of this years WCS circuit, I thought it would be interesting to have a look at some of the notable names we will be seeing at the grand finals at BlizzCon this year.

The Koreans

South Korea has always dominated the StarCraft II scene and this year looks to be no different. ByuN is the reigning world champion and currently ranked number 1 according to aligulac. He has consistently been one of the top players since the release of Legacy of the Void in late 2015 and his form hasn’t diminished at all since then. Although he was knocked out in the round of 32 in season 1 of the GSL, in season 2 he has been showing strong performances and it’s hard to imagine not seeing the champion trying to defend his title at the end of the year.

ByuN after winning the 2016 Global Finals

Someone who has already secured their spot at the global finals is Stats due to his championship winning performance at GSL season 1. He did however go through the entire tournament without playing a single mirror matchup and lost against Classic 2-0 which could show a weakness of his.

The Rest

Neeb after winning the 2016 KeSPA Cup
Whenever there is a foreign hope, there is a lot of hype and excitement that surrounds them and that has been no different when it comes to Neeb. Since he made the switch from terran to protoss with the release of Legacy of the Void, he has been a powerhouse capable of competing with the top Koreans. He even managed to win a major tournament in Korean, the first foreigner to do so since Grrrr… in 2000. He has already secured his spot at the finals by winning DreamHack Austin.

Another hope that us non-Koreans have is Nerchio. He has been one of the best foreign zergs ever since the initial release of StarCraft II with several major tournament victories including a DreamHack Open and Homestory Cup. He has never looked better than he has this year however recently taking second place at DreamHack Austin losing to Neeb in the finals.
